harris scarfe surprises everyone: rundle place vip opening

$

0

Recently I started got a job at Harris Scarfe. In the lead up to the opening of the store, I haven’t had a spare second to think (Read: I’m sorry I’m haven’t been posting!). In the past month, I have worked in a warehouse, on a worksite, and helped in setting up a huge department store – definitely a little way out of what I usually do! It’s been an overwhelming, exciting, amazing experience as a whole, but what happened towards the end of the set up definitely shocked me.

To celebrate the opening, Harris Scarfe threw a VIP party, complete with a fashion show of it’s new wares. You may have noticed that Harris Scarfe have really, really stepped it up in terms of their focus on fashion. You would be right in noticing that. Harris Scarfe have really focussed more on trend within the labels they stock, including Luca & Marc, Khoko, Diesel, Calvin Klein, and Boutique – the latter, none other than Christine Centenera styled for the VIP show. This was certainly unexpected, you’d probably agree. What was shocking, was that my manager asked me to assist the woman herself the day before the show, to assist with fittings and anything else she might need.

Assisting Christine with fitting was a dream come true for me. She is a idol of mine, in terms of both her personal style, and her styling work. She was very quiet, and incredibly friendly. As each model would try on their outfits, she would take such notice of tiny, tiny details to make the outfit completely right. If she wasn’t sure, she would start again. That level of perfectionism that is admirable. Her innovation blew my mind – who would have thought about putting white skivvies under the outfit? I wore those in kindy. And my god, did they look good. All in all, the day was nerve-wracking in the beginning (wouldn’t you be nervous? I don’t think I spoke for the first two hours!), but by the end I was in a dream haze of happiness.

So yeah, a part time job in ladies wear, and the chance to assist the senior fashion editor of Vogue. The two don’t generally go hand in hand, but for me they did this time. Definitely a strange turn of events, but my god it was incredible: it was amazing watching her work. Obviously I am starting my career in styling myself, so being able to watch her style ten outfits really was inspiring beyond belief.

Boutique boasts a range of drapey, oversizes items, including sharp black shirts, cocoon dresses, graphic print draped pants, soft tees with contrast panels, and thick trench coats with leather trims. All with a colour palette of black, royal blues, with a few elements of silver and beige. It really is a gorgeous collection, but it is quite simple, so I was really interested to see how Christine was going to style it. Adding long black gloves, touches of gold and/or clear accessories, and roll neck skivvies to tie in the pieces, Christine really made each look very different and very expensive. She also really made me want a pair of black leather gloves.

The show was really quite amazing, and I promise I’m not being biased in saying that. I was really overjoyed during the show, because I knew the calibre of show was higher than Adelaide usually sees. It was classy, the styling was great, the music was subtle and in no way gaudy, and the Finesse Models who showed were all amazing, as well as Harris Scarfe ambassador and face of Boutique, Kyly Clarke. After the show, I had more than ten conversations where people were surprised and really positive about the show, saying things like ‘Harris Scarfe have really stepped it up’, and ‘why aren’t all the shows in Adelaide like this?’ which was obviously more than wonderful to hear.

all photos by the wonderful Chanelle of Not So Naked

So yeah. Well done Harris Scarfe! Well done Christine Centenera and her team. Well done Belinda Humphris and Charley Venning, who styled the other Harris Scarfe labels in the show. Well done Lara Inc. Well done Joe Barberis, on the opening of such a wonderful store. Well done everyone who was involved in the production. But most of all, well done to the team of people I’ve worked with over the past 5 weeks, setting up this huge store and making it look amazing – very hard work that has 100% paid off. If you haven’t had a chance to go visit Rundle Place yet, I highly recommend it. It looks super great. Even if I am being a little biased, this time.

Tonight I packed my bag for MBFWA. This year, it’s especially hard to pack, as I will be staying in Sydney for a further five weeks for training for a new job. So, that’s a lot of clothes. I haven’t packed luggage for a six week stint in many years – it turns out I’m still no good at it! But anyway, this is one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe at the moment. It is technically a light jacket, but I’m currently obsessed with wearing it like this, as a dress. If I use a thin black belt, its barely noticeable, and all that is focussed on is the excellent drapery, especially around the décolletage area. So beautiful. The shoes are a 90′s slingback mule, beautiful soft leather.

japan

Both are beautiful gifts from a friend of mine who I recently worked on a shoot with, Emily from Red House Vintage. Understatement of the millenium: Emily has an incredible talent for vintage goods. The pieces she manages to find (god knows how!) are just incredible, and more unique, on-trend, and flattering than most vintage stores. Red House Vintage is regularly at Gilles St Markets in Adelaide – if you get a chance, I’d highly recommend going and browsing through. By far one of my favourite vintage stores in Adelaide! See her Facebook here to like away so you can find where RHV will be next: facebook.com/redhousevintage

Im in love with this entire outfit. I avoided this type of drapery and black essentialism for such a long time. I cannot for the life of me remember why. Now, there is no looking back. I’ve started a love affair.

The shoot Emily and I worked on together is a very special something coming up – a collaboration between both of our creative crazy brain cells. I would love to share with you all right now. But I can’t; not just yet anyway. Soon, I promise. Keep your eyes peeled!

See you at MBFWA beauties; I must sleep now, so I don’t miss my flight tomorrow.

aurelio costarella mbfwa 2013

Aurelio Costarella at MBFWA was really really beautiful; a gorgeous celebration of Aurelio’s 30th anniversary of being in the Australian fashion industry. Titled ‘Retrospect’, this collection seemed to be a summary of all the designs and inspirations that Aurelio has come across and loved over his 30 years. It was also a mix between ready-to-wear and couture, which worked surprisingly well – I couldn’t stop staring at the gorgeous couture to wear in some kind of regal faerie-land daydream, and was ogling the RTW pieces imagining myself in those pieces in my everyday life.

The show was in the box, and so was an installation rather than a ‘show’. Set in a triangle, 20 models stood around the three corners. The art of Waldemar Kolbusz covered the walls of the triangle behind the models, which, according to Aurelio, was ‘a constant source of inspiration’ to him. Another beautiful addition was the acoustic set played by Grace Woodroofe, and headpieces from Reny Kestel, which were incredibly beautiful. My favourite was a black headpiece that covered the models entire face, which made the outfit look almost gothic, in a very wonderful, exquisite way.

Beautiful beautiful collection. Congratulations to Aurelio Costarella on 30 divine years! x

Manning Cartel076

I was very excited to learn that I would be able to attend the Manning Cartell show this year at MBFWA. I’ve always been a huge huge fan of the Manning sisters’ clean lines, structuring, and interesting silhouettes.

This year was absolutely no exception. Glittering mesh outlined basic designs to make them even more flattering and fabulous, incredible geometric prints, a honeycomb print with cut out panels, pearlescent overtones and and emphasis on boxy shapes all came together to create a beautiful, clean collection. The colour palette was a wonderful contrast to the almost medical cleanliness and strict sculptured nature to the pieces: the colour were all very romantic and delicate, featuring nudes and beiges, creams, peaches and greys. Another amazing element was one of the featured shoes: thick strapped booties, with an ankle strap – an underwhelming description, but they were flawless in both black and white.

Hair and make up were both absolutely perfect. The hair, by Alan White for GHD, complemented the looks wonderfully; smooth poker straight slicked back locks with a braid down the middle – gorgeous. Makeup, by Max May for MAC, featured really clean, lovely faces with a beautiful glow, a focus of thick dark eyebrows and lustrous dark eyes, with a feature lip colour of a light orange. It really looked amazing. So very impressed once again Manning Cartell! x

september collection

I was delighted to be invited as a VIP last week to The September Collection, a new event in Adelaide which features up and coming designers in South Australia created by Ben Conroy (of Revolution the Label) and Haley Renee (of Haley Renee Photography). I really do adore seeing what the new generation of designers have up their sleeves, so I moseyed on to the The Loft Wine Bar last Thursday night.

IMG_0564Revolution the Label

Please forgive me – I turned on my SLR as the first look was walking around the runway only to realise I had lost my SD card. So these are taken on my new iPhone 5S – the camera is really good, but no smartphone camera is made for runway. The runway was in a square, so I wish I’d moved a little further round to the front – the floodlight made for some difficult photo angles, so again – sorry! I did my best regardless. For more photos, SA fashion blogger Adelaide Style File has some absolutely fantastic photos!

IMG_0609

Fraser McNally, Pride Models

Ben Conroy is the brains behind this event, but also showed his new collection for Revolution the Label. His relaxed and effortless monochromatic pieces were a delight to watch walk down the runway. The simplicity of the pieces made you focus on the way the drapery moves, which personally leaves far more of an impression that OTT design. Much to my amusement, I heard whispered confusion around me as to whether that the label is purely accessories – it seems Ben is leading the way and introducing many people in Adelaide to simplicity in design, which deserves a huge round of applause within itself. The aforementioned accessories were wonderful knotted necklaces, gloves, bracelets and armbands, which were so strangely beautiful that you can’t help but want one. The makeup and hair was absolutely incredible too, dark gothic warpaint smeared across the eyes and lips with hair away from the face and quiffed, as seen above on Pride Models Fraser McNally.  Beautiful work Ben.

IMG_0599

GretaKate

GretaKate was so lovely. Although my personal style probably doesn’t fit GretaKate, I could very much appreciate the beauty in the designs shown. There was some gorgeous sihouettes in the genteel collection, including bare backs, ruching, and beading both delicate and bold. One particular look was a favourite of mine and reminded me of the dress I desperately wanted for my high school formal. GretaKate’s look was a top and skirt, but it was a lovely flapperish inspiration, high neck, beading detail around the neckline, flowing down very loosely to be a drapery dream. I cannot for the life of me begin the describe what material the skirt is, but it was such a beautiful metallic maxi skirt. My next black tie event, GretaKate will be the first person I come to to purchase that outfit. So lovely.

IMG_0616

IMG_0612

Rachael Langham, Pride Models

Chelsea Eve is a label I’ve had interest in in Adelaide for quite a while now. Her super femme, super girly pieces have become popular with summery beach goddesses all over the state. Now you guys know I’m not the most feminine woman you’ve ever met, but Chelsea Eve has managed to find the relationship I have with femme clothing, create it, and stick it on a runway right in front of me. White leather bralettes, white leather skirts, bralette tops and shorts with almost bright, romantic patterns, beautiful flowy jumpsuits. Absolutely lovely. Illuminated faces, with bold brows, red lips and a statement braided fringe for the Chelsea Eve girls, as seen above on the ever-stunning Rachael Langham form Pride Models. Just the right amount of edge when you want to be a romantic dream babe.

IMG_0642

IMG_0648

Tanouk was one of the highlights of the night for me. I hadn’t had much exposure to the label before, so watching the incredible designs walk in front of me for the first time was a surprise and a delight. Amazing orange and khaki and royal blue metallic materials dominated the colour palette, with some leopard print, and a tonne of mesh. These mainly panelled designs are a real home run, they are unique, flattering, and completely stunning. I really loved the nods to 80′s fashion energy, and boxing fashion. Even the makeup and hair were refreshingly different – statement white eyebrows and white lips, and sleek plaited ponytails, also with white detail. It’s so lovely to see such innovation and character from a local label – I’m in love.

What I Wore

Jumper: Jay Jays, Skirt: Orbin the Label, Shoes: K-Mart

All in all, I was really impressed with the September Collection. Thank you for inviting me Ben, and everyone involved with the event! Also, you’re very welcome that I didn’t steal one of the gorgeous Guide Dog puppies.

Also, I will include this minor PSA as a response to some negative vibes that have been floating around Adelaide lately (do not read if you just want the fashion stuff): Not all bloggers say nice things because they’re trying to get something from it. Some do, but bloggers with integrity don’t. Some people are just positive about the fashion industry in the town that we live in. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with commenting on what you liked, and shining a well-deserved bright light on the successes of our up and comers. There’s also nothing wrong with focussing on the good things, as a blogger, but in life in general. I can guarantee every relationship you make, whether its personal or business, will be far more fruitful if you focus on the positives of what you do. Nobody likes a negative Nancy.

IMG_6374

The Adelaide Fashion Festival has kicked off for 2013, with another wonderful launch at Government House in Adelaide. As always, the opening was a picturesque beginning to the festival. After being addressed by the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce, and City of Norwood, Payneham and St. Peters Mayor Robert Bria, guests enjoyed a teaser show of SA labels that will feature their designs throughout the festival. The models sat in various locations around the stunning house just after the show, so I went and grabbed some shots of them all – so gorgeous.

After the formalities, myself and the rest of the guests moved on to the official after party at the Hotel Richmond. Many a drink was had in celebration of another year of the Adelaide Fashion Festival. I’m very excited this year. There is so many incredible events, with so many talented people involved. Watch this space over the next 9 days – AFF 2013 is going to be pretty great.

The Boutique show, a retail show showcasing some of Adelaide’s best boutiques and retailers, was held at the Central Markets U-Park. A runway show in a carpark you ask? Yes, but it worked. With a large section panelled off from driving cars for the show, it did look rather good – as long as no one had too many of the delicious Swire and Noble wines and walk defiantly into traffic after (thankfully no one did to my knowledge.)

Boutique was a huge show. I think off the top of my head there was something like 40 models!? And so many retailers that I actually lost count. The names of each boutique showing did not appear anywhere I could see, so unfortunately I could not keep track of what each look I liked was from. You could however, use a QR scanner on your phone, scan the code on a large TV screen along the runway, and purchase the pieces from your smartphone as the models were walking down the runway – such a good addition to a retail show. I was a big fan of some of Glenelg boutique Zero’s pieces, especially with the addition of their new self-made label Triple Six.

Special mention to Swire and Noble wines – with an ice bucket in front of us, we had access to the delicious Sav Blanc the entire way through the show.

It was a fantastic effort by all, a really good retail addition to the Adelaide Fashion Festival. Congrats the Filip Odzak and the Finesse Models! Wonderful show.

Here are some of my favourite looks. See more on the SWTC Facebook page.

AFF myer centre level one uncovered

Myer Centre Level One Uncovered was such a good retail show at Adelaide Fashion Festival, showcasing the huge selection of stores that the Myer Centre houses. Adelaidians would know that there’s been a crazy amount of renovations going on in the Centre and in Rundle Mall right now – I’ve walked into the everchanging steel barriers while texting and walking more than once now. So at this event, guests were lucky enough to see a brand new Level One, and the Myer Centre’s new logo for the very first time. The premise of the show was trend-focussed for spring/summer fashion. The trends included white on white (which The Adelaide Magazine’s Kate Bowden kindly educated us on regarding layering and texturing), bold colours, textured monochromatics, and fashionable sportwear.

The show also featured a styling feature from some of SA’s top stylists. I definitely don’t consider myself top of the line or anything, but I was blessed enough to be asked by the wonderful team at The Myer Centre to be one of those stylists. It was a great honour to be asked, and styling the lovely DJ Bliss in pieces from Ally Fashion was friggin’ rad. You can see the video here on Facebook: Myer Centre Adelaide Facebook

wish style challenge

I was lucky enough to be chosen to participate in a style challenge by incredible Australian label Wish (visit them at wish.com.au). This blogpost has the potential to win me a trip to Thailand, or a helluva lot of clothes – pretty exciting!

So you guys would all know that I’m going pretty monochrome at the moment. Shades of black and white are my best friend, and I’m struggling to stray from them. I just feel that going floral and colourful when it hits warmer months is a little too conditioned into us, and I’d rather play with shade and texture this spring and keep colour to a minimum. This is purely because I never have, and I can bet that majority of you guys haven’t either. Are you guilty of relying on bright colours every spring? I have been. Choose another path this spring! We have so many options, so many different elements that we can play with within our own style. Play around, like I have – it’s so much fun.

The Wish ’Chantilly’ dress is perfect for what I want to play with. With a soft cotton underlay, and a lovely chiffon overlay, it’s impossible not to feel feminine in this dress. The swallow/geometric pattern (which is exclusive to Wish this season) is made up of muted jewel tones, and regardless of being a statement, it doesn’t try to take away from the floaty nature of the dress. Neither do the black panels around the sleeves and bottom of the dress. I’m in love with it!

The shoes are my new favourites. I was surprised as all hell when I found them… at K-Mart. What?! I know. They’re comfy, and flattering. The clutch – which you guys have seen before, but it’s one of my favourite things I own, so nerr – is from the H&M collection with Maison Martin Margiela. It’s a remake from his 2010 SS collection – the infamous candy clutch. Rings are from Lovisa, nose ring is from ASOS, and faux leather cap is from Sportsgirl.

In terms of beauty, I was really excited to find this new shade of lipstick from Australian make-up label Australis – part of their Colour Inject Mineral lipstick range, this dark plum shade is called ‘Grunge‘. I’m also wearing their mineral highlighter – it’s a wonderfully subtle addition to any casual makeup look, but it really does make a difference, your face looks so fresh after highlighting your cheekbones. All other makeup by Rimmel (because I really DO enjoy that London look), and hair product used is Kevin Murphy Session Spray.

What do you guys think – does this outfit deserve a trip to Thailand!?

Huge shout out and thank you to Wish for including me in this challenge, and gifting me the beautiful dress. You guys are the biggest babes, thanks!

haley renee workshop

I’ve had the opportunity to work with talented Adelaide photographer Haley Renee recently, on a few different projects. And to my delight, she also asked me to be a part of one of her workshops, for photographers wanting to learn more about photography and what a fashion photoshoot is all about. So, I got to be a part of this huge workshop as the stylist, work with some talented people, teach budding photographers about a stylist’s role, and put beautiful clothes on beautiful models – dream day!

While I was running around styling the two lovely models, Carolyn and Emilia, I decided to get out my own (comparatively tiny) camera and take some shots of the girls myself, so I could show you guys, and document my work. I was surprised at my own ability with the camera – I’m no pro, but I think my shots turned out pretty good! (Must’ve been paying attention to Haley’s wonderful teaching?!) Then again, it was nearly impossible to take a bad photo of the lovely Carolyn Uphill and Emilia Zygocki. I took way too many photos throughout the day, but these were my favourites.  I wanted to play with different editing techniques with each image, to see what I could do with them, and I’m reasonably happy with my efforts.

Big styling thank you to Australian Fashion Labels, Jaimie Sortino, Cristina Tridente, Julie White, and Miss Rose Sister Violet.

I’ve been involved in some pretty amazing projects recently, so I thought I’d share some of them!

This video, shot by the gifted Luke Eblen, was created in Adelaide while shooting Jason Fassbender’s AHFA Collection, Tryst.

Jason, a renowned hairdresser and creative director from Parlour Hair Unley, is a forward thinker in the Australian hair industry. He creates not only beautiful hair, but stunning collections that are easily mistaken for fashion editorials. More of his work can be found on the Parlour Hair Unley Facebook page, here.

The collection, photographed by the always brilliant Sydney fashion photographer Daniel Noone, showed eight glistening looks, featuring luxurious satin and silk – a nod to a rich hotel lifestyle, and the alluring women who enjoy a opulent manner of living.

All round talented team, which turned out incredible results. Some images are are below. Very proud of everyone.

You probably saw the preview images of Opening Ceremony’s collaboration with artist Rene Magritte, same as I did. You probably thought it looked pretty fucking amazing too. Well, it’s finally here, released and available on the OC website. And it looks as good as we all thought it would.

The collection is part of Opening Ceremony’s ode to Belgium, and Rene Magritte is, in their words, “one of the country’s greatest artists”. Photographed by Phillipe Jarrigeon, the collection includes a ridiculously amazing lineup of sweatshirts, button shirts, a range of tops, skirts, slim-fit pants, dresses, and most amazingly, a add-on collaboration with shoe giants Manolo Blahnik, Van’s, and Birkenstock. All items feature images from twelve of Magritte’s most iconic pieces, including Sheherazade, The King’s Museum, The Lovers, Good Connections, A Blow to the Heart, and Ladder of Fire.

The entire collection is now up on Opening Ceremony’s website, and I doubt the pieces will last long. Too good.

winter uniform

$

This is what I’ve been wearing during the bitter winter we are having here in Adelaide. Literally every single day, like an army uniform. It’s fucking freezing outside; it does feel a little like walking into a war zone. My current job doesn’t really allow for really out-there fashion choices anyway – I wear jeans with boots or sneakers everyday. So before and after work, it’s all about thick rollneck and/or cable knit jumpers, draped leather jackets, dropcrotch jeans, and minimal accessories. I like to scare the customers with gothic dark lipstick sometimes though. And if I had a spare $450 to blow, I’d be buying those rimless CÉLINE beauties, instead of a shiny sunglass number off the rack at the servo when I’m buyin’ my Marlboro Golds.

All outfit notes are underneath the image.

Styling notes

Jeans: Maurie & Eve
Jumper: Cotton On
Shoes: Tony Bianco
Bag: Sportsgirl
Rings: Lovisa

I finally finally finally got my hands on pair of Maurie & Eve’s ‘Word Jean’ in black. I’m in love with them. They’re baggy, but taper around the ankle. Dropcrotch with extremely low back pockets. Super low waist – the complete opposite of all my other jeans.

You can dress them up or down; my faithful Tony Bianco’s, black Sportsgirl leather-look tote and a huge chunky knit are my favourite go-to pairing when I have to look semi-polished. Which is amazing, because getting dressed up in winter normally sucks for girls because you’re absolutely fucking freezing. Not this moi, I wholeheartedly refuse to freeze myself half to death. And this outfit smokes any flimsy icicle-inducing cocktail dress out the water anyway. Did I mention how comfortable they are? It’s like a soft denim cloud is swathed around your butt. Keep your eyes out, my next personal style post will be dressing them down.

My winter has been completely made now the Maurie & Eve’s are in my life. Big ups to désordre boutique for getting these in my hands so fast, and with an adorable note 😍

I struggle to think of myself as ‘feminine’ or ‘sexy’ most of the time, especially by conventional standards, but Agent Provocateur is the brand that somehow turns me into a some kind of maniacal sex kitten with a penchant for suspenders and whips. Like, do you remember the first time you watched Basic Instinct? And even though Sharon Stone was a homicidal psychopath, you were like, ‘damn girl, you are a sexy majestic woman, i wonder if I’d look that attractive stabbing a guy while having sex with him?’ That’s pretty much the sexy/powerful feels I get from Agent Provocateur.

Adelaide’s never had an AP before, and they invited me to have some champagne and take some photos at their opening in David Jones Central Plaza, off Rundle Mall. It’s always good vibes when some bigger labels open in Adelaide; we always tend to wait longer than some of the bigger cities and its a celebration when it finally happens.

It’s a gorgeous little showroom. Head past all the shoes on the lower ground level, and soon you will find the little pink counter surrounded by perfume, whips, and lingerie – unless I’m there, then all the lingerie will be mine.

Cheers to Golightly PR for inviting me, and also for the following image of me shooting models in lingerie, pretty cute.

Styling Notes

Top: Helmut Lang
Pants: American Apparel
Shoes: Windsor Smith
Jacket: Katie’s
Rings: Lovisa
Wallet: Comme des Garçons

Behold, my newest purchase: these Windsor Smith slides. Now we all would’ve noticed the huge Windsor Smith blow-up in the past few years, their chunky sandals are a hit with teenage girls all over the country. The stacked heels aren’t my thing, so I was pretty excited that these very basic, very comfortable leather slides were also available from the Australian retailer. You can wear them with anything, and they add a relaxed feeling to any outfit – extremely handy for someone who always looks a little menacing in all black and leather. When spring comes along, they’ll be on my feet everyday.

As said a few posts earlier, I don’t really get to wear anything too crazy at work. My uniform is a t-shirt, so I usually end up wearing jeans and sneakers every single day. In an effort to change that up a bit, and save me from my daily work clothing-related depression/boredom, I started to wear these American Apparel dropcrotch harem pants. In all fairness, I bought them one night when I was sitting outside a pub in the freezing cold with bare legs. They saved me that night, and every day I’ve worn them since – they are my pant angels.

My leather jacket is shiny in photos for some reason, but it’s quite matte in real life. It’s not real leather, and it cost me $20. I love it, wear it almost everyday, and get shitloads of compliments on it. Y’know, it’s almost as if being snobby about clothes from is a bit stupid… Weird.

My top is one of my favourite purchases of all time. Adelaide gem, the now-closed Filter Store, had a huge sale. I purchased some Comme des Garçons pants, and this Helmut Lang tee was a last minute ‘oh go on, I’ll grab this one too’ kind of situation. Its a 00’s long bondage tee, made in Japan from super soft 100% cotton, and customisable bondage strap along the bottom.

FInally, my favourite purchase of the year so far. I’d been looking for a wallet for years. Literally, years. I went on holiday to Sydney and had promised myself I wouldn’t spend much money. I was in a mens clothing store, and as I was admiring some crazy Visvim shoes, the rack of Comme des Garçons wallets caught my eye. Less than 10 minutes later, I owned one. I carry hardly any cash (read: I don’t have any) so it’s the perfect size if you’re a card-only kinda person. All black leather, as you’d expect – I wanted timeless, no polka dots thanks Rei you champion!

Black leather, all day erryday.

One of the best recent campaigns I have seen. The shapes created by super babe Rachel Rutt and her brother Chris are just unreal. Do you stay or splice away? Questions of forgotten physical definitions of bodily autonomy when you only feel whole with another person – do you feel weaker or stronger? Stronger, probably, hopefully.

As always, menswear is far preferable to womenswear – what a strong collection this is. Great necklines, great crisp tailoring, great lettering and logo work; the work together in the collection, not against one another. A cyber tribe, a functional army of the future. P.A.M is definitely one of my new favourite labels.

STYLING NOTES

Jumper: Topshop
Skirt: Temt
Shoes: Nike Flyknit Free Run
Bag: Sportsgirl
Snood: K-Mart
photos by Daniel Freer

Its been bloody freezing this past winter. Spring is technically here, so that means finally being able to bare a little bit of leg, fucking finally. This draped skirt is a good little cheap number from Temt – if I could afford a Rick Owens version I would, but unfortunately here we are in 2014, still not rich, still buying Rothmans instead of Marlboros, and still Rick Owens-less.

Mumma Sarge bought me this jumper from Topshop in the UK. It’s quite amazing that even in a fast fashion chain store, the outerwear purchasable from the UK is ten times warmer than that in Australia. I love it because it’s natural unbleached wool. Every now and then people will comment on it being stained, and I could retort with some very snooty comment about how ‘actually, no, that’s just the natural fibres, they’re not heavily bleached so there will be blemishes in the wool’, or at least I would if I was a worse person.

Finally, my favourite sneakers I ever did purchase: black Nike Flyknit Free Runs. How I loved them, such incredible beauties! Unfortunately I purchased them a size too small, so they are no longer in my possession. I’d kill to get another pair. They were not meant for this life with little old me. RIP.

“O powerful Nike, by men desired, with adverse breasts to dreadful fury fired, thee I invoke, whose might alone can quell contending rage and molestation fell. ‘Tis thine in battle to confer the crown, the victor’s prize, the mark of sweet renown; for thou rulest all things, Nike divine! And glorious strife, and joyful shouts are thine. Come, mighty Goddess, and thy suppliant bless, with sparkling eyes, elated with success; may deeds illustrious thy protection claim, and find, led on by thee, immortal fame.”
